I’m going to share an amazing book, and a fun story in this post.
It’s 5:19 am right now on Sat morning. Yes, I’m really sitting here in my dark home office (love the dark) writing this. I guess I’m just excited about the day, so I got up early on a Sat.
I’ll tell you why I’m excited.
First, a quick story.
Last night I went to the grocery store around 8 PM. I needed to get a few things for breakfast etc.
When I started to check out, I put my things on the moving belt there at the counter and then walked up to the little pay pad thingy.
The lady working there was probably around 40-ish. She didn’t even really engage me, just kind of going through the motions.
I caught her eye, gave her a big smile and said “hi!”
It was funny how her face lit up a bit and she responded with a smile and “hello”
I asked “how was your day today?”
She said “it was okay”
Me: “what was missing from your day to keep it from being totally awesome?”
Her: (looked like she was mentally evaluating that question) – “Gee, I’m really not sure. It was just a typical okay day.”
Then she asked me “how was your day today?”
My response: “my day was awesome! As a matter of fact my entire week was absolutely exceptional!” I said this with absolute sincerity, since it’s true.
The response that she gave me opened my eyes a little bit. Here’s what she said…
Her: “wow! What did you do to make your week so awesome? I’d love to know!”
Well, I knew I was standing in the grocery line and I didn’t have a lot of time to give her some great feedback. Believe me, I could’ve went into all kinds of different things about what I’m doing to create a life that I feel is fantastic, but I wasn’t going to hold up the people behind me.
Instead, I told her about a recent book that I read that I believe is making a substantial impact on my life right now.
I said “Go get the book (book name reveled later…) and read it. You’ll see. It’s awesome.”
She excitedly said “okay! I’ll get it. I’m excited to read it, thank you!”
I smiled at her and wish her a good evening then took my groceries and left.
I heard about this book at a mastermind event I was at a short time ago. I actually picked it up from the airport on the way home. It was the airport in Chicago at a stop over on the way back to Seattle.
I actually couldn’t put the book down once I started reading. On the four hour flight between Chicago and Seattle I finished the entire book and was so stinking excited I couldn’t wait to get off the plane and start implementing.
I highly encourage you to go out and get this book today. Yes, today. Read it this weekend, and start implementing on Monday.
If you put this book into practice in your life, I believe things will significantly change.
This last week has been more productive for me, more exciting, more focused than anytime in previous months. Maybe even years. I feel amazing! The clarity is unreal.
I want that for you! That’s why I’m sharing this book.
Okay the book is called:
“The One Thing”
It’s written by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan.
You can see the website here: http://www.the1thing.com/
That’s all I’m going to say. I’m not going to get into what it’s about or anything like that. I’m afraid I wouldn’t do it justice. Just go get the book and read it. You’ll thank me for it.
To finish this post I want to share a thought that came to me during my conversation with the lady at the store.
Her comment: “it was just a typical, okay day” really struck a chord with me.
That is typical. That is a typical day for people.
I thought to myself how sad that was. How so many people have just learned to accept “okay”.
Not me! And I hope not you!
We can do much better than “okay”… We can have fantastic days. Exceptional weeks. And live an unbelievable life. That’s what we’re here for, isn’t it? To be our best? To live our best life? To make the best of this gift of an experience?
I think so.
Let me know what you think of the book. I’m excited to hear your thoughts and your results!
I hope you have a fantastic weekend!
